Clarification

I've picked up some clarification regarding this post regarding economic stimulus money going to ACTION. It turns out Community Connection of Northeast Georgia, as well as the Institute for Non-Profits, is involved with this proposal, thus necessitating apologies for my confusion and misrepresentation.

Folks at Community Connection told me the grant is for $1 million to service Athens-Clarke, Jackson, Barrow, Elbert and Greene counties, and $600,000 of it will be dedicated to grants for non-profit capacity building.

ACTION will coordinate a mini-grant program that, over the course of the next two years, hand out grants the size of $20,000 to a total of 30 organizations. According to initial discussions, those grants will only be awarded to organizations that can demonstrate their clients are obtaining the skills needed to find employment and actually earning employment.

The grants will be flexible in terms of spending and can be used to build a computer lab or hire staff.

In addition, roughly 60 organizations - including the 30 mini-grant recipients - will undergo a needs assessment from students seeking a Master's in non-profit administration through a program coordinated by Community Connection's Non-Profit Development Alliance. These agencies will receive a work plan based on their needs, and the NPDA will provide general training and technical assistance in those areas.
