Couple of things

- In an interview with me, Athens-Clarke County District One Commissioner Doug Lowry offered his take on all of the attention surrounding the 'secret meeting' last week.

- Well, yeah ... this explains a lot. I couldn't figure out what in the world 'Bubber' Wilkes was thinking in asking for a sum that larger and, it turns out, he wasn't asking for it.

- Determined to find something wrong with every element of that meeting, this editorial doesn't completely chastise the community's efforts in recruiting bioscience businesses, but comes close. Of course, I think it largely misses the point. The informational meeting was aimed, according to Lowry, as a way to learn what was ongoing in that field. So they learned about the independent efforts to turn Athena Industrial Park into a bioscience headquarters, and they also learned that several incubator projects from the University of Georgia were preparing to expand their operations into that facility. This meeting was about laying a foundation through small- to medium-sized ventures spurred by public-private partnerships, not about swinging for the fences for another NBAF-type project.

- Joyce DeWitt!

- OK ... if you do this why do you draft a point guard and trade for a younger hybrid guard? Unless the plan is to utilize Jamal Crawford as a replacement for Joe Johnson after 2010 and then go after, say, Chris Bosh next year (which I could endorse).
