Couple of things

- Grift's asking some good questions on a confusing ruling from the U.S. Justice Department ... or, shall we say, confusing reporting of what is more than likely a rather clear ruling. Regardless, Karen Handel's attempt to purge the voter files of registered voters needed to thrown it. The program itself was riddled with errors and flaws which, as observers from all spectrums agreed, would have wrongfully removed legally registered voters from the voting rolls. While this arguably gives Handel a boost in the GOP primary since she can now run as the 'anti-Obama' candidate, it also means that she has habitually had her initiatives and rulings thrown out by a variety of higher ranking legal counsel.

- OK, yes and no. Despite David Ortiz hitting below the Mendoza Line with only one home run and Mark Teixeira going nuts in May, the Yankees are still only one game up on the Red Sox. I still fully expect Ortiz to be able to close with a competent enough stretch (say .250 with 15 to 20 home runs) that will make him a solid enough bat. He's arguably not the slugger he once was, but I also wouldn't rule out Boston solely because he's not swinging the bat well.

- Good for them. Here's hoping they not only get the courage to follow through, but they also get the broader community support needed to make it happen.

- I just kinda wish that Roy Barnes would make up his mind.

- So I saw The Happening yesterday, and man it really was as profoundly bad as everyone had made it out to be. At some points, I honestly believe the acting was that awful for intentional reasons. And I couldn't look at Mark Wahlberg without thinking of this.

  1. The Happening was just a train wreck - I saw it in the theater! THE THEATER! And I'm sure they've cleaned it up on the DVD and on TV - but there were probably about 4-7 scenes where you could clearly see the boom mic. Just ridiculous.

I certainly anticipate that the Yankees and the Devils will be in a war all season long - but the thing that has to worry you is that they weathered the first six weeks without A-Rod and a slumping Tex and Sabathia - the team you have seen the past three weeks is the team that will be playing the rest of the year. Scary. Of course its all moot because everyone will be taking a backseat to Wieters and the O's come 2010...Wieters for World Overlord!
